SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Deputies received a call about a Dubose Middle School teacher making inappropriate comments to one of his 14-year-old female students. Once at the scene, they say they uncovered much more.
Investigators say they uncovered additional information that the student was actually touched by the teacher in an inappropriate manner. After conducting several interviews and meeting with the solicitor's office, sheriff's office investigators obtained arrest warrants for assault second degree and criminal solicitation of a minor for William Albert Brown.
Brown is a 49-year-old Summerville man.
On Friday, in the afternoon hours, investigators arrested Brown at his residence without incident. He is currently being booked at the Dorchester County Jail Annex.
Officials say Brown was arrested in 2010 on a domestic violence charge that did not result in conviction.
Dorchester District Two spokesperson Pat Raynor said the eighth grade English teacher was recommended for termination on Thursday. She the recommendation came after the district's investigation into reports of sexual harassment, after which district officials notified the sheriff's office.
Brown was hired in 2008. Before his hire, Raynor said, a SLED background check and a sexual predator check were performed. Both came back clean.
The case is still under investigation.
