Joint Base runway changes to race course for morning 5K
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Runners and walkers had their chance to spend a morning on a runway at Joint Base Charleston during a benefit run for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
It was the 6th Annual Run the Runway 5K hosted by Joint Base Charleston to foster relationships with the surrounding community and raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
This year also honored Ret. Brig. Gen. Thomas Mikolajcik, who lost his battle with the disease in 2010.
Runners were sent down a path that led them between a pair of C-17s.
There were awards for the overall fastest man and woman as well as for the top three finishers in each male and female age group.
