CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The joint board from South Carolina and Georgia working to develop a $3.3 billion container ship terminal on the Savannah River is meeting in Charleston.
The board of the Jasper Ocean Terminal will take up the budget for the next two fiscal years during its Thursday meeting.
Also on the agenda is an update on a study of the capacity of the Savannah River. The panel has been studying whether the river, which already is used by the Port of Savannah, can handle the additional cargo ships from a second river port.
The panel has been working to develop a 1,500-acre container port in Jasper County on the South Carolina side of the river just downstream from Savannah.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
