MACEDONIA, S.C. (WCIV) - A parent's worst nightmare came true for Charles Britt and his family last week. His 22-year-old daughter June Guerry was murdered. The worst part of it all, they say, is that they know the one suspect in police custody.Guerry's family says 23-year-old Caleb Matlock was a friend of June's for years. "She liked him and we always went with what she thought of people because she was good hearted," Charles Britt recalled. "She had enough sense to know who to mess with and who not to mess with."Britt says he last saw his daughter August 26 just before dark. He said 18-year-old Dana Woods came by their home and picked June up and went to Dana's St. Stephen home. "I said okay, and that was the last time I saw her. I told her I will see you when you get back."June never came back.

It wasn't until the following day that Britt says Dana's mom, Jennifer Hill, called and told him they never came home and that's when he says they began to look.He said June always returned home because of her pride and joy, Emma. He and his wife, Linda Guerry are now caring for their granddaughter. "Anytime I got depressed, she would come and she had her saying 'what's wrong daddy?'" he said. "You know when this happened that kept popping in my head."According to the incident report, the girls made stops in Moncks Corner at the Burger King and went to McDonalds to take a friend of June's home that night. The following day, Britt says he and his son-in-law spotted Dana's white Chevy Metro, with a man driving it and they tried to follow."He said 'my God there he is.' By the time we got around to see where he went he already went through a red light to turn down Highway 402."The person he says was behind the wheel is one of the two men now in police custody, 23-year-old Caleb Matlock. "It was Caleb, how the other boy came into the picture I don't know," Britt said. June's family says they don't know Arthur Chavis but knew Matlock well. According to the coroner, both girls were shot dead.Dana's body was found a day before June's in the Cordesville area of the Frances Marion National Forest.Charles says at this point, it was very difficult for the family to sit and wait. He says he went out to that same area and got the feeling his daughter was not there. He then said he told everyone he had to go home and speak to God. "I went on my knees and I prayed," he said. "I couldn't have made it another night not knowing where my youngin' was." {}Police have not released a motive for the killings and that has June's parents wondering what went wrong."She always wanted to help people. I think that's what happened to her that night," June's mother said. "I think that boy called her and she went to him."As investigators work to find out what happened the night Dana and June disappeared, Charles says nothing could justify what happened to his daughter and he wants justice."If there could be a death penalty for them they deserve it. They deserve that and a lot more. I got no doubt in my mind they are going to get what they deserve," he said. "They shot my youngin' and they threw her in that ditch like a dog. There are images that come through your mind that will eat you up. I mean it will eat you up."
