SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) - Dorchester County officials are inviting residents to hike a one-mile loop around the proposed Ashley River park and give their feedback on how the park should look.
The tour starts off from Renken Road off of Bacons Bridge Road and between Dorchester and Ashley River Roads at 9 a.m. on Saturday March 9. It will end around 1 p.m.
"This is your chance to view the property and get your voice heard," said Councilman Jay Byars, who is Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission and represents Council District 7. "So many ideas have been discussed, but we still need to hear from you."
Dorchester County bought the property using funds from the $5 million bond referendum approved by voters in 2010.
The park site, located diagonally across from Richard Rosebrock Park, consists of 83 acres with 3,770 feet of river-front access and a 5.7 acre pond.
The Dorchester County Sales Tax Transportation Authority has plans for a walking/biking path beneath Bacons Bridge Road to connect the property with Rosebrock Park.
