CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - State Rep. Chip Limehouse of Charleston says he will seek South Carolina's 1st District congressional seat.
Limehouse is vice chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and has served in Columbia for 18 years.
He is seeking the seat left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Congressman Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate seat left vacant when Jim DeMint resigned. Limehouse's father, Buck Limehouse, ran unsuccessfully for the congressional seat in 2000.
Former Gov. Mark Sanford is also considering a run for the seat he held in the 1990s. He was in Charleston looking at office space Thursday but says an announcement on what he plans to do is still several days away.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
