Biershenk : Living the PGA dream

By Scott Eisbergseisberg@abcnews4.comHILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV)--{} For former Clemson Tiger and Spartanburg native Tommy Biershenk, it has taken a while to live a dream.{} A lifelong golfer and long time professional, it took him until this year to reach his goal of making the PGA tour.{} Tommy Biershenk is 38 years old.{} "It's been a long road.{} I was on the Nationwide Tour for seven years," said Biershenk. "I finally broke the ice this year at Q-School.{} I'm having a great time with it, having fun making some adjustments.{} I've worked hard with my coach."{}{}{}Biershenk tooled around on several mini-tours and the Nationwide Tour, but now, playing a fully exempt PGA tour schedule is something truly special.{} "Its fun, look around and seeing this many people paying this money to come and watch me play golf. I never want to take it for granted," he said.{}When Biershenk is home, much of his practice time is spent at Bulls Bay Golf Course in Awendaw with his coach of six years Rickey Sullivan.{} "To be 38, he's not your typical rookie," said Sullivan. "I think he's going to have a good week and he's had a good year so far, making five of nine cuts.{} He's a rookie and hasn't played on his side of the country yet, on turf he's used to." The two continue to work together this week on Hilton Head.{} Sullivan believes the time is now for Biershenk to shine.{} "He might but have 12 more years to play so he puts inner pressure on himself, needs to stay in the moment, play his game," Sullivan said. "I think he can do that."{}As for this week on Hilton Head Island:{} "It would be a dream come true," said Biershenk. "I'm working hard, certainly a goal of mine to win in South Carolina, my home state.{} It would be a great experience."{} All good things are worth the wait, Tommy Biershenk certainly knows that.
