Local Bar and Grille sending help as nor'easter heads North

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - As a Noreaster heads toward the New York area, with the potential to cause even more damage following Hurricane Sandy, people in the Lowcountry are doing what they can to help.

Dennis Schafer, owner of The Roost Bar and Grille in the Avondale area, had a close friend directly affected by Sandy.{} The two decided to organize a supply drive at the bar on Saturday to send supplies North before another storm hits town.

"It hit us hard because we could see how close she is to us in the family. Like I said, we are very close around here - we take care of each other and it was us saying let's get together and do something for her," said Schafer.

Pretty much any supply, from articles of clothing to food that could survive the trip, were accepted.

Schafer said UPS was providing free shipping to get the supplies out by Saturday evening.

Not that any incentive was needed to give, but Schafer was giving a free beer to anyone that stopped by to donate.
