Louie's Kids brings star power to fighting childhood obesity

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Second Annual 'Slim Down the South Celebrity Softball Challenge' hit its second home run Saturday evening.

The annual fundraiser event benefits Charleston-based nonprofits Louie's Kids & Run Buddies in their fight against childhood obesity.

"Obesity is something this country is battling with right now," said NBA All-Star Xavier McDaniel. "I know it's hot outside, but I think kids gotta be able to get out and exercise."

McDaniel suggested bringing recess back to the schools saying that when he visits to talk to the students, he noticed that they went from lunch right back into class.

The game itself was casual with many celebrities using pinch runners and some of the more vocal celebs walking around with microphones so they could taunt their opponents.

In the end, Team McElveen took home bragging rights over Team Baker, winning the game 5-3.

"It's not really important who wins," said Roberto Martinez from ABC's The Bachelorette. "It's supporting a good cause and if we're all having fun, that all that really matters."
