Lowcountry holiday events this weekend

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV ) -- From tree lightings to parades, to photos with Santa, holiday events are spread throughout the Lowcountry this weekend.



  • The Reindeer Run through downtown Charleston starts in front of the Southend Brewery on East Bay Street Saturday morning. 5K runners start at 9 a.m. and walkers start at 9:05 a.m.
  • The 76th Annual Christmas Candlelight Services will be held at The Citadel's historic Summerall Chapel Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The City Market Association will light gather in the French Quarter Courtyard on South Market Street for the annual tree lighting. Members of the association will sing carols and hand out Christmas treats.
  • The Panera Bread at 2000 Sam Rittenburg is hosting a breakfast with Santa Saturday from 9 a.m.- 11:30 p.m.
  • The 33rd Annual Holiday Parade of Boats beings along Mount Pleasant waterfront at 5 p.m. People should be able to see the boats from downtown Charleston starting at about 6 p.m. The lighted and festive boats will travel through Charleston Harbor.

Isle of Palms

  • A free celebration will take place on Front Beach on IOP Saturday starting at 2 p.m. There will be carnival rides, a photo booth, jump castles and a climbing wall. Santa Claus will also there to visit with kids. The event lasts until 7 p.m. The evening will end with the lighting of the 22-foot IOP holiday tree.

Moncks Corner

  • Santa Claus will take pictures with kids at the train depot at 100 Behrnab Street from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • Cypress Gardens is hosting 'Santa in the Swamp' from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Santa Claus will arrive by boat at 11 a.m. and take pictures with kids and pets. There will be live holiday music, vendors, crafts and activities for the kids. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free.

    Mount Pleasant

    • The Mount Pleasant Holiday Farmers Market and Craft Show will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. at Farmers Market Pavilion at Moultrie Middle School on Coleman Boulevard. There will be locally grown fresh produce, baked goods, Christmas ornaments, glass work, clothing, jewelry and more. There will also be live entertainment and a photo booth, balloon art, face painting and inflatables for the kids. Santa Claus will also be there.

    North Charleston

    • Kids can have breakfast with Santa at the Felix C. Davis Community Center from 8 a.m.- 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Claus will also be there. Tickets are $4 per person.
    • The Christmas Festival starts tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Park Circle. There will be jump castles, a petting zoo, carriage rides, food and crafts
    • After the festival, the Christmas Parade will start at the corner of Motague and Mixson avenues starting at 5 p.m. The parade will travel down Montague Avenue, around Park Circle and end at Armory Park.
    • Following the parade, Mayor Keith Summey and Santa Claus will light the city's Christmas tree outside the front entrance of the Felix C. Davis Community Center. The lighting ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. and will include food, craft vendors and children's activities until 9 p.m.

      Folly Beach

      • The Folly Beach community will light the Christmas tree at Folly River Park at 1 Center Street. The event begins at 7 p.m. and lasts for about one hour.


      • The Hollywood Christmas Parade and Taste of Hollywood starts Sunday at 2 p.m.

        Moncks Corner

        • The town's annual parade will start at 3:30 p.m. at Berkeley High School and end at Main Street Extension.
        • After the town's parade at about 5:15 p.m., the tree lighting ceremony will begin at Unity Park on Main Street.

        Mount Pleasant

        • The 18th Annual Town of Mount Pleasant Christmas Light parade starts at 5:30 p.m. The parade procession will travel from Shem Creek to Sea Island Shopping Center. There will be decorated floats, marching bands, antique cars and Santa Claus.

        North Charleston

        • The Charleston Symphony Orchestra's wind and strings ensembles will perform holiday classics at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 7 p.m. Admission is free.


        • This year's theme for the Summerville Christmas Parade is 'Sweet Southern Christmas.' The parade will take place in downtown Summerville from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The parade will pass The parade will travel on West 4th North Street, pass Hutchinson Square on North Main Street, travel down West Richardson Avenue and then down Hickory Street.{}


        • The Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade takes place Sunday from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. at Walterboro City Hall.
