Man, 19, arrested for felony DUI after Hilton Head crash

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A teen was arrested and charged with a felony DUI after Beaufort County deputies say he wrecked his SUV and severely wounded another teen in the vehicle on Christmas night.{}

According to the sheriff's office, 19-year-old Matthew Zitello was driving a 2005 Infiniti SUV when he crashed on Seabrook Drive. Officials say they found him sitting on the side of the road near the intersection of{}Dolphin Head and Seabrook drives.{}

Deputies say the SUV was off the road, upside down, and 100 feet into the treeline. Inside the SUV was a 19-year-old girl who was unconscious.

Officials said she appeared to have life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Hilton Head Airport and then flown to{}Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash and charged Zitello with felony DUI.{}

He is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

The Beaufort County Alcohol Beverage Control Investigators are following up the Highway Patrol investigation since the accident involved an underage person who was allegedly inebriated.{}

That office is trying to find out how Zitello got the alcohol.
