Man accused of breaking into cars during Mt. Pleasant parade

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police arrested and charged a man with trying to break into cars while hundreds of people lined Coleman Boulevard for the annual Christmas parade.

According to Mount Pleasant police, Fredrick Lorenzo Gathers III was charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle.

Police say a patrol officer was able to spot Gathers getting out of a car based on a witness description of a man who was trying to get into cars of parade attendees.

When the officer tried to stop Gathers, he ran, police said, but was ultimately caught.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department is looking for additional victims who may have had their vehicles entered and their valuables stolen.{} Anyone with information about his crime or who may be a victim should contact the Mount Pleasant Police Department at 884-4176.

Gathers' bond was set at $10,000.
