Man charged in Horry County shooting death

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Horry County police have arrested a Little River man in the weekend shooting death of another man.

Deputies arrested 30-year-old Christopher Evon Smith Sunday morning and charged him with murder. He was being held in the county jail. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.

Smith is accused of shooting 25-year-old Cortland Gore on Saturday.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said Gore died from a single gunshot wound.

Deputies were called to a wreck at U.S. 701 and state Highway 22 Saturday night. They say Gore had been shot while driving.

A passenger with Gore, 40-year-old Aaron Lee Campbell of Raleigh, N.C., was arrested after he was found with of counterfeit money. He's been charged with forgery.
