Man sentenced to 45 years in prison for 2011 murder

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Friday after being convicted of murdering the wife of his children in 2011.Kelvin Jackson, 34, of Hampton, was sentenced after a four-day trial and an hour-and-a-half jury deliberation. The jury found Jackson guilty of strangling Masako Yamaguchi Miller, 35, of Hampton, on May 26, 2011 in her home.Officials said a fisherman found her body on a mud flat where Archers Creek meets the Broad River four days later. In the days leading up to her murder, officials said Miller appeared to distance herself from Jackson, the father of her two children. Officials said Miller removed Jackson's name from her car insurance policy and closed a joint account the two held.

Officials noted that the two were involved in a volatile and abusive relationship. After her death, Jackson used her credit cards, officials said. They also said a note was left for Miller's children stating that she was one a trip and would be back soon that experts later said closely matched Jackson's handwriting.By law, Jackson must serve all 45 years before being released. He is not eligible for parole or any other early release mechanism.
