Man arrested in cocaine consumption death granted bond

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The brother of a man who died after eating about an ounce of cocaine in November appeared in bond court Tuesday night.

Deangelo Mitchell has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his brother Wayne Mitchell. Police say Deangelo Mitchell pulled cocaine out of his butt and asked his brother, Wayne, to eat it.{} According to police, Wayne is seen doing so on surveillance video and he died within the hour.

A white, powdery residue was observed in the seat where Wayne sat beside his brother. Deangelo Mitchell told officers Wayne swallowed about an ounce of cocaine.

During Tuesday night's bond hearing, Mitchell told the judge he is currently on probation and is facing two other charges for trafficking and possession to distribute.

The judge set his bond at $400,000 for the involuntary manslaughter, and distribution of cocaine charges.

Mitchell is currently in custody at the Charleston County Detention Center.
