Marine Corps jet training in SC could be noisy
MARINE CORPS AIR STATION BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- Pilots from the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort are conducting takeoff and landing exercises that could disturb residents near the installation.
Marine Corps spokesman Lance Cpl. R.J. Driver says Friday's training runs around the South Carolina installation will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Driver says the practices are arranged to prepare pilots for an upcoming deployment.
The typical exercise mimics the short bursts of speed made by jets as they land on aircraft carriers at sea, and is noisier than normal.
The spokesman says the Marine Corps appreciates the community's support and patience during the exercises.
