Marines conduct MV-22 Osprey helicopter training
PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- Residents of Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island may be able to hear members of the Marine Corps as they conduct helicopter training.
Marine Corps spokeswoman 2nd Lt. Jean Durham says residents may hear MV-22 Osprey helicopters as they perform take offs and landings at the Recruit Depot on Parris Island from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.
Durham says Marines involved in the training are attending an infantry officer's course.
The Osprey can operate as a helicopter or a turboprop aircraft. It is used to transport troops, equipment and supplies from sea or land during assault or support missions. It carries three crew members and 24 troops.
