BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) - A bomb disposal team from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort has collected some military explosives brought to the Bluffton Police Department.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported the Marines and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office bomb squad were called Monday morning after a man brought in the explosives and said he wanted to get rid of them.
Officials cleared the area for about five hours while the explosives were evaluated and handled.
The man's name was not release and officials have not said exactly what types of explosives were brought to the station. Police said some of the material appeared to date from World War II and some may have been older.
The man said the explosives had been in his family for years.
