CCSO: McCaffrey tip was based on friend's dream

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Sheriff's department officials said Thursday that a tip that led the McCaffrey family to the Upstate was based on a dream of a family friend.

The family of Gayle McCaffrey said a tipster's information did not turn up any new leads in the search for the missing woman's body.

A family member said they received an unusual tip that led them to a specific area in their search for Gayle. The sheriff's office said the area was in Sumter County.

Officials confirmed two investigators joined the family in the search.{}

McCaffrey was reported missing by her husband, Robert, last March. While many searches have been conducted, investigators have come up empty-handed.

The sheriff has called the case a homicide investigation and named Robert McCaffrey as the primary suspect, but he has not been charged.{}
