Memorial Day events and deals around the Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- While many will be spending Memorial Day spending time with family and grilling in the backyard, there are a number of events around the Lowcountry that highlight the meaning behind your day off of work.Patriot's Point:Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will host a "Sharing a Remembrance" ceremony to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our nation's freedom and freedom of millions worldwide over the course of our nation's history. "On this solemn day set aside to honor our nation's fallen war heroes, I hope all Lowcountry residents will take a moment to reflect on the courage and sacrifices of those who gave their all in defense of our nation's freedom," said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. This year, instead of featuring a guest speaker, the museum will invite members of the audience to come forward and say a few words about someone they would like to be remembered for giving their life for the freedoms we take for granted every day. Guests can simply state the person's name or say a few words about them.The event will be held at the Vietnam Support Base Monday, May 27, at 8:30 a.m.Veterans groups and members of the public are encouraged to attend the program and the museum will offer free admission from 8 - 9 a.m. {}Piccolo Spoleto:As part of the Piccolo Spoleto Special Events Series, the Charleston Men's Chorus will present a somber and celebratory tribute to our veterans and current armed forces members at its annual Memorial Day Concert. {}The concert will take place Monday, May 27th at 12:00 noon at St. Philip's Episcopal Church located at 142 Church Street. {}The program will include service anthems, patriotic songs, and other inspiring works to honor our service men and women.{}{} {}Admission is $21 for adults and $16 for seniors and students. NOTE: All ticket prices include a $1 per ticket Box Office surcharge. American Legion Post 147

U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) will be in Charleston Monday to participate in a Memorial Day event honoring our veterans hosted jointly by American Legion Post 147 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 445. Scott will speak at 11 a.m.

The event is being held at American Legion Post 147 at 968 Folly Rd.

Marion Square:

The Charleston Community Band will perform a free joint concert with the Columbia Community Band to honor our veterans at 3 p.m. May 27 at Marion Square.
