CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Hanckel Marine and military veteran volunteers are joining forces to clean litter from hard-to-reach coastal areas near Charleston with a trash treasure hunt.
The nonprofit group Wounded Nature Working Veterans and Hanckel Marine are sponsoring Saturday's event. A celebration follows at Island House on John's Island. Prizes are being awarded for five categories of trash items collected such as most bottles and cans, longest rope or odd items like sunglasses.
The celebration includes families and offers free food, beverages and educational displays. Admission is one bag of beach trash per boat or car or a donation to Wounded Nature.
