Missing Virginia woman found in trunk of car in Orangeburg County

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A woman was found in the trunk of a car in Orangeburg County Tuesday evening, officials with the Highway Patrol confirmed.{}

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, an officer found the vehicle at a rest stop on Interstate 95 around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A male suspect who was part of a look-out alert for the Highway Patrol was in the car.{}

According to a release from the Orangeburg Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old Regelio Lopez was arrested. Lopez had an outstanding kidnapping warrant from the Richmond (VA) City Police Department.

The alert came from a possible kidnapping out of Richmond, Va., officials said.

Highway Patrol officials said the woman was found in the trunk of the suspect's car.{}

Officers did not disclose the relationship between the two. The woman was rescued and checked out by EMS.{}

The case has since been handed over to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office to investigate.{}

The sheriff's office has not released any additional information in the case.
