MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV)Shoppers will experience more changes at J. C. Penny.
The popular department store is planning to do away with manned check out counters.
The struggling retailer says it will replace its entire technology infrastructure with a new system that won't require clerks.
J. C. Penny's CEO says shoppers will use self-checkout machines, similar to those found in many grocery stores.
The move comes only a year after penny's did away with any and all sales, instead opting for an "everyday" low price and tiered pricing structure.
J.C. Penney should be rid of the checkout counters by 2014.
