Officials investigating another downtown porch fire
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Investigators are starting the process of finding out if another downtown porch fire is connected to a series of porch fires in the holy city.
The most recent blaze happened on Montagu Street near Ashley Avenue, according to officials.
The fire started just before 4 a.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the blaze.
No one was hurt in the fire and a spokesman for the Charleston Fire Department says it's too early to know what sparked the flames.
Officials say there have been nearly 60 porch fires in Charleston over the last 8 years. Many of the porches had couches on them. Investigators worry the fires may have been started by a mystery arsonist.
On Monday morning Barbara Fromholz, the home's owner, was removing clothes from the smoke coated home. She said the smoke alarms woke her up. Fromholz said she didn't think an arsonist may be to blame.
"I thought it was electrical," she said.
Charleston Fire Department officials are expected to look further into the case.
