BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - It could be an early Christmas gift for the City of Beaufort.
The Beaufort Gazette reports that the state Department of Natural Resources has increased a grant for a new dock on the river in the city's historic district by almost $85,000.
That means more than $110,000 in state money for the project expected to cost more than a half-million dollars. That's good news for the city because for every dollar the state provides, the city can get three federal dollars for the project.
The state money was made possible after other projects were either delayed, canceled or came in under budget.
The new 250-foot dock is part of a master plan for the marina. Final plans will be drawn up once grant money is in place.
