More than 12,000 flags placed at Florence cemetery

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - More than 12,000 flags are in place in front of markers at Florence National Cemetery, ready for the Memorial Day ceremonies Monday.

The Morning News of Florence reported (http://bit.ly/1jgLqKB) more than 100 Scouts, JROTC students and volunteers placed the flags Saturday at the cemetery, which marks its 150th anniversary next year.

The volunteers have a track record of making very short work out of the effort. Event organizer Jay Holcombe asked them to slow down this year and take a look at the stories that the headstones tell.

Still, their work was done in 45 minutes.
