JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV)--A Lowcountry mother seeks closure in the murder of her young son. Sunday marked the ten-year-anniversary of the shooting death of Justin Brown.
Family and friends gathered for a memorial cookout in his honor on Johns Island.
According to the victim's mother, Candice Brown, her son was attending college in Winter Park, Florida in 2002.
On April 29th, she says two men armed with a gun, entered her son's apartment and shot him.
A friend of Justin's visiting from Charleston was also in the apartment but ran into the kitchen to hide.
Justin later passed away at the hospital. To this day, his killers remain at large
"They need to be punished. I mean that's just all there is to it. You don't take another life and then go on with your life and act like nothing ever happened and so that is just not acceptable with me," said Candice. "I just found out a few months ago that it has been designated a cold case."
Justin was Candice's only child. Anyone with information concerning her son's murder is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Florida at 407-836-4357
