MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Andrew Castle wasn't the only one who didn't notice the cones missing from Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant Tuesday morning.

"They were very unattractive and we all got used to them being there, but it's very nice to have them gone," Josephine Sange said.

Green trees and new soil replaced the cones. But, the changes on Highway 17 are more than visual.

Wendy Delaney is a vendor at Chic Antique,{}which sits right off Highway 17 on Frontage Road. She said sales have decreased by 20 percent since construction began.

"There are so many cones out there and it's so difficult to maneuver in and out. They don't want anything to do with it," Delaney said.

Officials also raised the speed limit back up to 45 miles per hour. Drivers hoped it would{}relieve some of the congestion.

"I would hope the traffic design is safe enough to allow that speed. Let it flow again," Castle said.

Local business owners hoped shopping traffic would flow too, just in time for the holidays.

"People are going to be so relieved the construction is over. I think that in general will bring them out to the stores," Delaney said.

She said the store{}already saw extra traffic this week.
