Mt. Pleasant home store owner arrested on tax charge

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Mount Pleasant man was arrested Tuesday and charged with operating a retail business without a sales tax license.

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue, Daniel Burriss, the owner of Cliff's Home Center, had his retail license revoked in February but continued to run the business. Officials say Burriss received two violations in March and July for continuing to run the business.

The 52-year-old Burriss could face $200 in fines and up to 30 days in jail if he is convicted.

He is currently being held at the Charleston County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
