Murder suspect arrested in downtown Charleston Friday night

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV/AP) -- A Charleston man was arrested Friday night and charged with the murder of a woman police identified as his girlfriend.

According to Charleston police, 55-year-old David Reagan was arrested at a St. Margaret Street home late Friday. Police said the home where Reagan was found was not his.

Police said he was wanted in the killing of Kathy Hawkins, a woman identified by police as his{} girlfriend, at her Royal Palm Boulevard apartment a day earlier.

A neighbor found her inside of the apartment and police said she was strangled to death.

Police said Hawkins was found dead Thursday afternoon with her empty purse beside her.

Her credit card was used several times after her death and investigators said a convenience store video camera shows Reagan buying beer with Hawkins' card.

Reagan was charged with murder and is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
