CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A patient from an industrial site was taken to Medical University Hospital's emergency room Friday afternoon, which ended up shutting down the road in front of the ER.
According to officials at the hospital, when the patient arrived the Charleston Fire Department's Special Operations Unit brought in its decontamination truck outside the ER to treat the patient.
The truck parked on Jonathan Lucas Drive, which is why the roadway was shut down briefly.
Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch said the patient came from Kinder Morgan shipyard, but officials did not say what chemical the patient was exposed to.
Charleston County EMS officials said the ER entrance was blocked briefly, so emergency patients were taken into the hospital through the horseshoe.
