Myrtle Beach man pleads guilty to failing to register as sex offender

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) - A Myrtle Beach man{} pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to failing to register as a sex offender.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, 35-year-old Ronald Shane Johnson failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to Myrtle Beach from Tennessee. Attorneys said Johnson was convicted on Aug. 19, 2009, of solicitation of a minor in Tennessee.

He left Tennessee shortly after his release and did not register until he was arrested in January, officials said.

The maximum penalty Johnson can receive is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment for 10 years, plus a special assessment of $100.00.
