Myrtle Beach tourism brisk as season winds down

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - While the summer season on the South Carolina shore is beginning to wind down, tourism is still brisk along the Grand Strand.

A report from researchers at Coastal Carolina University projects that the room occupancy rate should be about 93 percent this weekend. That's about the same as last year.

Also, reservations for next week indicate that more than 89 percent of accommodations surveyed in Horry and Georgetown County will be occupied. That's up almost 5 percent from the same week a year ago.

Myrtle Beach is the heart of South Carolina's $18 billion tourism industry.
