Narcotic sweep nets 10 arrests

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officers with the Charleston Police Department Special InvestigationsUnit and Team 1 arrested 10 people on narcotic and weapon charges during a two-day drug sweep.

The narcotic sweep started on March 28 and continued into March 29 indowntown Charleston.

Along with the arrests, officers confiscated 186 grams of marijuana, 16.9 grams of cocaine base, 6 grams ofcocaine, $1,788 in cash and a stolen handgun.

The arrests happened on Coming Street, Magazine Street, Congress Street and Carondolet Street, Congress Street and Benson Street, MoultrieStreet and North Tracy Street,Dingle Streetand Congress Street,King Streetand Huger Street, Moultrie Street and Dewey Street, and Conroy Street and Meeting Street.{}{}{}

Arrested and charged with possession of cocaine base.

Eugene Robinson, 38, of North Charleston, is charged with distributionof a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance withinclose proximity of a school.

Marquis Evans, 30, of Mount Pleasant, is charged with trafficking cocaine base.

Harvey Wiggins, 23, of Adams Run, is charged with possessionof marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with theintent to distribute within close proximity of a school, possession of cocainewith the intent to distribute, distribution of a controlled substance,distribution of a controlled substance within close proximity of a school,possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolenhandgun.
