NCPD: Driver will not be charged after driving into building
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- After driving his vehicle into two buildings in North Charleston early Tuesday morning, police say the man behind the wheel will not be charged.
According to Spencer Pryor with the North Charleston Police said the motorist had a "medical issue" which caused him to collide with the SAIC building at 1141 Remount Road.
Pryor said EMS on scene confirmed the driver had "low blood sugar." A police report states the driver was found in the car having a diabetic episode. An EMS crew responded and treated the man.
Officials at SAIC confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the man is a current employee, but deferred any further questions to police.
Damage was not confined to one building. There was also significant damage to 1101 Remount Road which houses offices for Scientific Research Corporation. Several trees and signs around the property were also hit.
The police report estimates the damage at $200,000.
