NCPD investigating armed robbery at CVS

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -- North Charleston police spent the early morning hours of July 4 responding to an armed robbery at a CVS location.

Dispatchers say police responded to the store on Ashley Phosphate Road near Dorchester Road around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

According to police, officers went to the CVS store around 2 a.m. Friday where witnesses told them a white man wearing a mask and armed with a knife went to the pharmacy and demanded oxycontin and morphine.

Police say he was given the drugs and left in a silver car.

Shortly after that, Dorchester County deputies saw a car matching the description on Dorchester Road near Highway 165 and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver would not stop.

Deputies continued to chase the car to Old Charleston Highway on John's Island, where the suspect got out of the car and surrendered, according to officials.

Inside the car, deputies found a pillowcase with the drugs stuffed in it along with a mask and knife.

Deputies arrested Richard Lamar Dean of John's Island and charged him with armed robbery.
