NCPD officer wrecks cruiser on Palmetto Commerce Parkway

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a single car accident that sent two people to the hospital.

According to Trooper Hannah Wimberly, a North Charleston Police officer was responding to a call when the officer lost control in a curve on Palmetto Commerce Parkway eastbound.

Trooper Wimberly said the cruiser hit a median and flipped over around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both people in the cruiser were taken to Medical University Hospital.

According to the North Charleston Police Department,{}officer Victor Hendrix andChaplain Bill Youngblood were responding to a call for service in the Wescott Subdivision, when Hendrix lost controlof the vehicle, the vehicle struck the median and rolled.{}

Youngblood has been released from the hospital and is doing fine, according to the{}Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy.

"The Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy is indescribably grateful for the selflessness and service of our volunteer Chaplains and of the First Responders throughout the Lowcountry. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chaplain Youngblood and the officer. We are praying for a quick recovery for them both," the chaplaincy said in a statement Thursday.
