HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - The new clubhouse at Harbour Town Golf Links may remind people more of an art gallery than a locker room.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports the Hilton Head Island Design Review Board on Tuesday approved the plans for the $20 million clubhouse. Harbour Town is home to the RBC Heritage tournament played each spring.
The plans call for wide galleries on the main floor where art from the tournament can be displayed. Every Heritage winner since the tournament started in 1969 has been portrayed in an original oil painting.
The clubhouse will also include a larger pro shop, a new restaurant, and private dining and meeting space.
Construction is to begin after next spring's tournament with the opening for the 2015 tournament.
