COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV)-- The man who slowed down Mitt Romney's momentum is the man who tops the polls Saturday as the last votes trickle in.The downtown Hilton in Columbia has turned into the Headquarters for Newt Gingrich and that's where the watch party is for the former house speakerIn just the last week Gingrich has gained significant momentum.{} Earlier Saturday a Gingrich top advisor said he comfortably expects Gingrich to win the South Carolina primary. He doesn't expect a strong finish, but a strong victory.

Political analyst Kendra Stewart from the College of Charleston agreed. When asked in an interview on ABC News 4 at 6pm Saturday if she thought Gingrich would walk away with a South Carolina victory she didn't hesitate to say "Yes." The positivity can be felt at the watch party as hundreds of media have requested to be there for the possibility of being with the victorious candidate. Space is at a minimum on the media risers. Crews are still putting together the finishing touches on the stage where Gingrich is expected to speak.

Also in attendance, the Democratic national Committee chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Some were wondering if she was there to check out President Obama's future opponent. We will be here throughout the night as the votes start coming in and we'll be tweeting updates around the clock.
