ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has fond memories of the state of Florida.
He marked his return to college football in 2005 with a win against UCF, which at that time was a largely unknown gridiron program.
But at 3-0 and coming off a win over Penn State, the Knights are hoping to score a signature win against Spurrier's 12th-ranked Gamecocks (2-1). The Knights are trying to move to 4-0 for the first time since 1988 and Saturday's game is their first sellout since 2011.
UCF will be fighting a 1-24 history all-time against ranked teams and 2-14 record opposite Southeastern Conference foes.
Making the challenge even tougher will be South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw, who is playing his best football and has yet to throw an interception.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
