NORTH, S.C. (AP) - No charges are being filed against a pickup truck driver who struck and killed a 6-year-old Orangeburg County boy who was crossing the road to get to his school bus.
WIS-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1kJUtq0 ) Wednesday that the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver was driving three miles under the posted 55 mph speed limit just before the Jan. 8 crash.
Dover Elementary School student Zion Toland was killed as he crossed U.S. Highway 178 to get to his bus stop. Investigators say he was thrown up to 137 feet when he was struck.
A detailed account of the bus route shows the bus should have been on North Road, not on the private drive where it was.
