      No suspects identified in Walterboro murder case

      WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- State police have been called in to assist with a murder investigation in Walterboro.

      Officers from Walterboro Public Safety responded to 203 Chaplin Street for a shooting around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Interim Chief Ken Dason.

      Officials say a caller stated he was inside the residence when he heard three shots fired and fled the residence to call 911. Officers say they found 65-year-old James Mitchell on the front porch and he had suffered an apparent gun shot wound to the head.

      On-call investigators and the State Law Enforcement Division took over the investigation. The 911 caller was taken to City Hall to be interviewed by detectives.

      Investigators have not identified a suspect.
