Nonprofit holds free clinic to help homeowners with mortgage troubles

{}SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -{} Because their first Mortgage Default Clinic was such a hit back in June, The Dorchester Prosperity Center is giving homeowners a chance to attend another one.On Wednesday, July 23, the Center will team up with Trident United Way (TUW), Palmetto Goodwill and Family Services INC (FSI)., to help homeowners who are having trouble paying their mortgage, facing foreclosure or can pay their current mortgage but fear they may get behind or be unable to make future payments.According to the DPC officials, the clinic will be led by representatives from FSI, which is a HUD-approved nonprofit organization based in North Charleston. FIS officials say their Homeownership Resource Center (HRC) division is ranked one of the most successful mortgage default programs in the nation, and has saved thousands of South Carolina homes from foreclosure.The clinic will be held at the Dorchester Prosperity Center located at 222 Trolley Road in Summerville. It is free and open to the public.To see if you qualify for mortgage modifications, the lowest interest rates and lowered mortgage payments, organizers say you should bring the following items:
  • Mortgage Statement
  • Any correspondence from lender or attorney
  • Two (2) pay stubs for everyone in the household
  • Proof of any other form of income
  • Two (2) most current bank statements
  • Most recent tax return with W-2's
  • Recent utility bills
