      North Charleston's stocking loaded with holiday events

      NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- City of North Charleston officials are planning their holiday festivities and there are enough events to ensure a packed calendar.

      The fun starts on Tuesday Dec. 3 with Winter Wonderland at Armory Park. This free event is a chance for pre-school children to meet Santa and take part in arts, crafts and live music.

      Another fun event for the kids is the Children's Theatre scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 at the Sterett Hall Auditorium. The play, Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus, will be performed at 10 a.m.{}

      On Saturday, Dec. 7, kids get another chance to meet the Big Guy at Breakfast with Santa. Tickets are only $4 and officials say a "hearty meal" will be provided.

      Also on Saturday is the main event, the annual Christmas Festival and Parade. The festival starts at 3 p.m. at Park Circle and includes a Holiday Market with live music, activities for the kids, crafts, food and vendors.

      The parade starts at 5 p.m. at the corner of Montague and Mixson Avenues, proceeds down Montague, around Park Circle, and concludes at Armory Park.

      As soon as the parade ends, Mayor Summey will be joined by a special red-suited guest at the Felix C. Davis Community Center to light the city's Christmas Tree.

      After the festival, the fun continues with a screening of It's a Wonderful Life. Part of the Park Circle Film Society's Silver Screen Series, the classic holiday movie will be shown at the Olde Village Community Building at 7 p.m. Click here for ticket information.

      If live music is more your thing, head over to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center for A Rockin' Christmas. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets prices range from $15 to $35.

      Another event for music lovers is planned for Sunday Dec. 8 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The Charleston Symphony Orchestra's wind and string sections will perform a free Christmas Concert.

      Finally, on Saturday Dec. 14 and Sunday Dec. 15, find the perfect gift for under the tree at the Village Antiques and Collectibles Holiday Market. It's being held at the Felix C. Davis Community Center from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
