North Charleston holds July 4th Festival

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The city of North Charleston is hosting a day of music followed by fireworks to celebrate the nation's birthday.

The event at the city's Riverfront Park on Thursday features four bands, among them the Blue Dogs featuring Skylar Laine from "American Idol."

The music is followed by a fireworks show put on by Zambelli Fireworks International.

Events for children include a jump castle, games and the attractions at the park including a giant sandbox and a play area.

The park is the location of the Charleston Naval Base Memorial. It is located on land that was once part of the base that closed in the mid-1990s.
