North Charleston police respond to suspicious package

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Crews from North Charleston police and fire and the Charleston County Bomb Squad responded to a suspicious package Tuesday afternoon.{}

According to officials, the package was found at the North 52 Square Shopping Center.

Police say a white man was seen putting a suitcase on the ground and then getting back in his car and driving away.{}

Several nearby businesses in the shopping center have been evacuated, officials said.

The area was cleared after officers opened the suitcase and found a water bottle and several other items.
