North Charleston service commemorates 9/11
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Hundreds of public safety officials and first responders from across the South Carolina Lowcountry are gathering for a service commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.
It's one of dozens of events being held across the state to mark Sunday's anniversary.
Representatives of 25 military, law enforcement and fire agencies are scheduled to attend the Friday service at the North Charleston Coliseum.
It will include remarks from first responders at the World Trade Center towers in New York and the Pentagon during the 2001 attacks.
North Charleston Fire Chief Greg Bulanow says the public is welcome. He says that includes young people who may have been too young to understand what happened a decade ago but whose world was shaped by those events.
