Northern SC could see freezing rain from storm
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Forecasters say northern South Carolina could see a light coating of ice from freezing rain.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory effective Friday for areas north and west of a line from Anderson to Chester to Cheraw.
Forecasters say freezing rain should start in the northwest part of the state around daybreak and spread east. A light coasting of ice is expected along the Interstate 85 corridor, with light snow and freezing rain expected to the east.
The Midlands may see a brief period of sleet or snow, but temperatures should stay above freezing.
The Department of Transportation is already putting salt brine on bridges to try and keep them from freezing over. The agency also has activated its website for road conditions at http://www.scdot.org/winterweather/Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
