SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- The holiday got off to a rough start on the roadways after a crash that sent an officer to the hospital late Wednesday.
Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say an officer with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office was taken to Trident Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
A spokesperson for SCHP says the officer was traveling south along Myers Road in Summerville just before 11 p.m. Another driver, identified as 38-year-old John William Calvin, of Summerville, was pulling out of a private driveway.
Officials say the cruiser crashed into the Ford truck driven by Calvin.
Calvin was charged with driving under the influence.
Calvin was not hurt in the incident, officials said. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
