One dead after hit-and-run in W. Ashley
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- One person is dead after a hit-and-run on Savannah Highway.
City of Charleston police officers were called out just after 1:30 a.m. Friday to the area of Savannah Highway and White Oak Drive where they found one person lying in the roadway.
A spokesman with the police department told ABC News 4 the victim was a bicyclist and was struck by a vehicle. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were unable to get a good description of the car, other than it was an SUV traveling southbound.
Investigators are still searching for the driver at this time.
The victim has been identified by the coroner's office as 51-year-old Gerard Nieto from Charleston.
